Contains a bunch of spoilers~!
I tried searching far and wide for character explanation for OZMAFIA!! as to which fairy tale they are from, but can’t find any. Therefore I decided to write one myself. So here you go!
Famiglia Oz

The Wizard of Oz
Oz Famiglia characters represent characters from Wizard of Oz. Caramia represents the Lion, Kyrie represents Scarecrow, Axel represents tin-man.
Caramia was really courageous as he received courage from the wizard. Naturally, as he is a lion, he has animal instinct, which is why he was controlled by Hamelin. As a lion, he is strong and is king of the jungle, which makes him the Don of Famiglia Oz.
Kyrie is really smart, he received brain from the wizard. He is the scarecrow and therefore has the power to control crows. One of his eyes changes color according to his mood, as the farmer who own the scarecrow painted the left eye with different pain every time the color fades.
Axel was caring as he received a heart. He is a tin-man and therefore he is build sturdily. Tin-man originally uses ax as weapon and Axel waves around his shotgun as if its an ax.
Fuka represents Dorothy, Soh represents Dorothy’s dog, Toto.
The journey, like the one in the fairy tale, did happen. However, after the journey, Dorothy wasn’t able to go home. She then build the tower and lived there together with Toto. She turned her 3 companion into human. Fuka is part of Dorothy that wants to go out of the tower.
Soh is basically the ultimate bad guy. He wanted to do anything or everything to make sure Fuka/Dorothy doesn’t leave the tower. He left the tower to bring back Fuka to the tower.
At the grand ending, it was explain that Fuka and Dorothy are 2 different person and therefore Fuka can go back to city and live how she want. Soh stayed in the tower, and

Sad Kyrie, having to remember everything alone.
Kyrie remembers everything. The brain he received from the wizard make him unable to forget. He bears all the memory and suffering all by himself QwQ (MY DEAR KYRIEEEE!!! DON’T WORRY, I REMEMBER TOO, WITH YOU! EVEN THOUGH I’M ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SCREEN! TwT)
Famiglia Grimm

Grimm Famiglia name high chance came from Brothers Grimm. The Brothers Grimm are famous authors. The write or retell famous fairy tales/folklore. Famous folklore related to Brothers Grimm includes Hansel and Gretel, Pied Piper of Hamelin and Little Red Riding Hood.
Little Red Riding Hood
Little Red Riding Hood is one of Brothers Grimm notable works. They weren’t the first one on this tale, but their version is one of the most famous one. My guess, Scarlet is based off Red Riding Hood. He has red hood and loves to visit the forest, Caesar’s area. Caesar is probably based of the wolf in Red Riding Hood. Caesar and Scarlet have minimum interaction even though chances of them meeting is fairly high.
Scarlet is a sniper, he brings his gun around. My guess would be he is design after the ‘child’ of riding hood and hunter. Which is why scarlet has characteristic of both riding hood (cute, petite, red hood) and hunter (strong, boy, hunts).
Caesar is later revealed to be Dorothy’s magic, which till now makes no sense to me.
Hansel and Gretel
Hansel and Gretel is another fairy tale made famous by Brothers Grimm. Side character Hansel and Gretel are based off the main characters in the tale.
Pied Piper of Hamelin
Pied Piper of Hamelin is the another fairy tale connected to Brothers Grimm. In the tale, Hamelin controlled rats children with his pipe. Similarly, in game, Hamelin was able to control children and animals. Soh, originally a dog, should be able to be controlled by Hamelin if we follow the game, but it was the other way around. Soh controlled Hamelin and made Hamelin do bad things. Hamelin is nice in nature and is a good guy, but Soh destroyed him.
Famiglia Anderson

Hans Christian Andersen is another famous fairy tale author. His famous work includes The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl and Thumbelina. Andersen pronounced similar to Anderson, especially in Japanese language.
The Ugly Duckling
The Ugly Duckling name in Danish is Den grimme ælling. With google translate, I found out that Aelling means duckling. Aelling is shy and modest, but his clothes are pretty extravagant and white like swan. However, I don’t remember Aelling getting controlled by Hamelin’s pipe despite being based of an animal.
The Little Match Girl
The Little Match Girl and Ande is one of the obvious ones. Ande always try to sell matches to others.
Thumbelina
Thumbelina is a story about a tiny person, similar to Melisus. This one is a really rough guess with not much proof or explanation beside their size.
Famiglia Boots

Puss in Boots
You might have heard of Puss in Boots from Shrek and yes, they are both based off Puss in Boots.
Pashet character introduction on official website is “The Stern Puss in Boots” which made this pretty obvious for people who has habit of reading.
Famiglia Adelheid

Heidi
Heidi is the main character from a Swiss children’s book of the same title.
Sherwood Clinic

Robin Hood
Dr.Robin is based from Robin Hood from Robin Hood.
Dr.Robin’s wife would be based off Maid Marian. Depending on the version of story, Maid Marian comes from various background, from noble to commoner.
Wolf Gang

Wolf gang is not represented by a single fairy tale, or a single author. Its the ‘wolf’ in various stories. Mentioned earlier, Soh is based of Toto, a dog. Caesar is based of big bad wolf, a wolf. Thus the name Wolf Gang.
Oscar Wilde Brothel

Oscar Wilde is the name of famous poet and playwright.
The Picture of Dorian Gray
The picture of Dorian Gray is one of Oscar Wilde’s work. Direct quote from Wikipedia, novel Dorian Gray is a handsome, narcissistic young man, he indulges in every pleasure and virtually every ‘sin’, studying its effect upon him, which eventually leads to his death. Similarly in game, Dorian Gray indulges himself in sinful pleasure.
So, I wasn’t able to find information about Manboy/Saucedo and Alfani. I might need to watch/read The Picture of Dorian Gray to find out, but then I am lazy XD. If I find anything, I will update this.
If you know any more information or your thoughts on this, please comment below! Thank you for reading ❤
